What is Health?

Hello Flourishing Friends,

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself what health actually is? Most of us haven't.

We tend to measure health by whether we have symptoms, whether our lab work is normal, or whether we're checking all the boxes—eating well, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep.

Those things absolutely matter. But they don't tell the whole story.

In fact, have you ever noticed that two people can eat the same foods, exercise the same amount, and sleep the same number of hours—yet experience completely different levels of health? Why?

Because health isn't just about what we do for our bodies. It's also about how well our bodies are able to adapt, regulate, heal, and function.

Lately I've felt called to get back to the basics and talk about what it is we are really doing here at Eudaimonia Chiropractic. My mission has always been to help people experience true, deep health. (After all, Eudaimonia means flourishing.)

Health is not the absence of symptoms.

Health is the full expression of your body's intelligence through a well-functioning nervous system.

Think about the last time you felt genuinely healthy. Not just free from pain.

I mean energized, clear-headed, resilient, sleeping well, recovering quickly, feeling capable.

That is what health feels like when your nervous system is functioning the way it was designed to.

Your nervous system is the master controller of your entire body. Every heartbeat, every breath, every movement, every immune response, every thought—it all depends on how well this system communicates.

When something isn't functioning optimally, our bodies often communicate through symptoms. Symptoms don't necessarily mean you're broken. More often, they're information. They're your body's way of asking for change and drawing your attention to something that needs support.

When communication through the nervous system is clear, accurate, and efficient, every other system has the opportunity to function at a higher level.

I often think of nervous system function like a dimmer switch on a light. Health isn't simply "on" or "off." Most people are living somewhere in the middle—not completely unhealthy, but nowhere near their fullest expression. They've adapted to feeling dim for so long that they've forgotten what bright feels like...

Here's what I believe:

You were designed for more than simply getting through your days.

You were designed to adapt. To recover. To heal. To thrive.

If you've ever had the feeling that your body is capable of more—that this can't possibly be all there is— I'd love to help you discover what becomes possible when your nervous system begins functioning the way it was designed to.

As always, I hope this helps you.

Take care,

Dr. Evelyn
